On Tuesday, March 8, at 8:15 p.m., the Eureka Annual Meeting will start at Town Hall. At the Annual Meeting, citizens receive updates for the past year from the Town Board and Planning Commission.
Citizens also vote to set the levy for the 2017 budget. This vote is binding on the Board, so your vote matters! If you don't attend and vote,
someone else will decide this for you...
This year, there will also be
a very important opportunity for you, as a citizen, to let the Board know your thoughts and feelings on
a critical issue. You may have heard or read about the fact that the
Metropolitan Airports Council (MAC) has indicated to
Lakeville that it is interested in being
annexed by them. That would be 452 acres and tax dollars away from Eureka. The reason given is that MAC has a policy that all its airports must be sewered and watered. Gary Schmidt, MAC representative, informed the Board at its last meeting that they are not interested in a community well or a community septic system, as has been discussed in the past..
The Board will enter into discussions with the MAC rep and the Airport Manager as well as with the City of Lakeville. In order to do this most effectively, it desires to hear from
you. Your thoughts, feedback, and suggestions are being sought! The Annual Meeting is the time! This matter can have long-reaching consequences for us as a Township, even threatening our existence if it becomes, as many fear, a case of the "annexation ball gets rolling."
Following the Annual Meeting the Board will have the March, April, and May meetings as well as any Special Meetings it sets to handle this critical development. You are encouraged to get involved and stay involved.
THE WORLD BELONGS TO THOSE WHO SHOW UP, as the saying goes.
To those of you old enough to get it, "Be There!"
